The Forno di Gennaro

The Forno di Gennaro is located in Matera in via Nazionale at number 52, the main road that connects Matera to nearby Puglia. Gennaro, son of bakers for generations, decided to open his modern bakery here in the sixties, after the depopulation of the Sassi.

Today the baton of this family tradition, which began at the end of the 19th century, has been taken up by his two daughters Patrizia and Sabrina who continue the ancient art of bread with dedication and passion.

Thanks to them, the bakery has had a new and modern look, with an architectural restoration intervention a multifunctional place has been created where, in addition to producing and selling Matera bread and other baked products, it is possible to hold courses, meet customers and suppliers or taste the excellent products of the local tradition and of Basilicata.

Il Forno di Gennaro uses only selected raw materials from a short supply chain, and for the production of Pane di Matera it uses re-milled durum wheat semolina which comes from Lucan farms and is milled in a supply chain mill.
